Formulation Development
Technostics have expertise in developing a range of non-sterile products including solid (tablet, capsule, powders), semi-solid (gel, cream, emulsion) and liquid (solution, suspension) dosage forms.
We use a range of characterisation techniques to understand how intrinsic variables, such as excipient selection, and extrinsic variables, such as physiological micro-environment, affect in vitro product functionality. This allows us to formulate products from a position of knowledge and enables the development process to progress in an enlightened manner.
We have been involved in projects ranging from the initial formulation development of concept samples through to reformulation of existing products to enhance their efficacy, convenience and appeal.
Examples of studies we have performed include:
- Dissolution and disintegration testing of immediate, sustained and controlled release devices.
- Rheological characterisation of liquid and semi-solid formulations.
- Texture analysis to determine the mechanical properties of formulations such as tablet and gel strength, compressibility, consistency, powder flow and adhesive properties.
- Micro and macroscopic digital imaging to enable visualisation of excipient hydration, swelling and morphology.
